China | Karen Yao | 32 Nations Project

A unisex t-shirt designed in Shanghai by Karen Yao, an observer of life and people, whose art celebrates the heroines who represent China on the field and in the country.

Karen Yao is a Visual Designer from China, she creates work in the fields of illustration, graphic design, and webcomics. She studied in Shanghai, New York, and Rotterdam.

She enjoys working with different kinds of people. She's an explorer of the edge of her profession, and an experimenter of art and design. The topic of her works includes culture, life, society, etc.

"The outstanding players of the women's football team are like heroines to Chinese fans. There is an old Chinese saying about heroines: "巾帼不让须眉", which means that women are no worse than men. "巾帼" refers to the headgear of ancient women, and therefore refers to heroines. So I used the traditional hairstyle of buns and red headbands in the picture. The stars in the picture are taken from the elements in the logo of the China women's national football team."
